Located in Normandy’s Cotentin Peninsula, Hôtel les Pieux is a 28-room hotel serving a steady flow of travelers year-round. To maintain a smooth guest experience, efficient room keycard management is essential to daily operations.
Before implementing Keycafe, room keycards were left on the reception counter for guests to collect using a checklist system. While simple, this approach created operational risks.

Each morning, the reception team uses the Keycafe app — via computer or mobile device — to assign room keycards to that day’s reservations, which automatically triggers an email or SMS to the guest with access instructions. They can then use their unique PIN code to access their key at the Keycafe SmartBox upon arrival at the hotel. Similarly, when guests are ready to check out they can return their keys to the SmartBox in seconds. Staff remotely monitor arrivals and departures in real-time, as they receive notifications each time a key is picked up or dropped off.
The system integrates smoothly into daily operations and requires minimal manual oversight. In addition, staff can instantly issue a backup room keycard if a guest loses their original one — improving flexibility without adding complexity.
